2014 M&E Newcastle

Although it was not the first time that Specialised Geo participated in the Mining and Engineering Exhibitions, we are honoured to be part of the 3-day event that was held for the first time in Newcastle.  The organisers of M&E string of events have decided to move the 2014 exhibition to Newcastle because they believe that being recognised as the industry hub for the NSW Hunter Coalfields, Newcastle and its surrounding region are the bases of a significant portion of the workforce and mine management, thus, it would be an excellent venue to attract key visitors.  The event was held at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on 8th-10th October.

The opening day of the 2014 Mining and Engineering New South Wales (M&E NSW) was focused on Health and Safety of people and infrastructure within the sector.  One of the speakers, Dr. Ana Giacomini from the Newcastle Institute of Energy and Resources discussed issues like rock fall hazards, wind draws and engineered barriers in the Australian mining environment and how innovative procedures can be utilised to promote and improve safety in the mine sites.

Day 2 Theme:  “Women in Mining”

The second day of the 2014 M&E NSW was focused on the roles of women in the mining industry in New South Wales, and dubbed as Women in Mining Day during the event. The attendees, including Specialised Geo Team, enjoyed drinks and nibbles after the Women in Mining Day panel session.

Day 3 Theme:  ‘Electric V Hydraulic’

The last day of the 214 M&E NSW exhibition was more of tech talks, with focus on the benefits of electric actuators V hydraulic cylinders to the environment.

Due to the positive feedback and overwhelming volume of people who attended the event, organisers are already looking at the possibility of hosting a bigger show for next year in Newcastle.  They are also considering to tie the event to the city in the same way as Mackay has done with the Queensland Mining and Engineering exhibition in July, which Specialised Geo also attended.

Specialised Geo would like to thank everyone who visited our booth during the exhibit.  See you at the AusRock 2014: 3rd Australasian Ground control in Mining Conference in Sydney on 5-6 November 2014.
