Roads and Maritime Services has announced that the second stage of rock fall protection fencing on Bulli Pass will start on 28 August until 3 November 2017, weather permitting. During the closure, local traffic will be allowed from Lawrence Hargrave Drive up to the hairpin bend.

Specialised Geo will be working day and night shifts, 24/7 to complete the work as quickly as possible, to install additional 500 metres of rock fall protection barrier fencing in the area. The fence will be installed high up on the escarpment by using cranes and other lifting machinery from the road. Heavy posts and fencing will be installed without damaging the surrounding rainforest canopy.

The most complex section of fencing, or about 600 metres of the 1.1 kilometre, has been completed during the first stage to prevent potential rock falls. A short video of the project, how the fence will work and the progress of work during the first stage of work in 2016 is available on the RMS website.

Specialised Geo sponsored Race 2 in the Newcastle Cystic Fibrosis Race Day 2016 held 6th August at Broadmeadow Racecourse.   Below are the results of the race:

RACE 2 – Specialised GEO Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Plate 1250m

Sebag – to be ridden more forward; settled outside lead.

Pianissimo – Stable representative S Page was advised that a warning would be recorded against the gelding which was difficult to load.

Arabian – missed the start slightly. Making the first turn commenced to race keenly and had to be steadied away from the heels of Mosaytion.  Rider C Lever reported that gelding travelled well on the bridle in the early and middle stages however rounding the home turn could not quicken when placed under pressure and in his opinion did not handle today’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative S Page concurred with the thoughts of C Lever that the gelding had not handled today’s heavy track conditions.

Sunday Swindler – laid out under pressure in the straight.
